Christmas Jams: Bananarama "Baby It's Christmas"

Boy am I a dumb ho for sleeping on the fact that Bananarama's super-classy high-energy holiday jam "Baby It's Christmas" has been available on U.S. itunes (and the Amazon MP3 store)—in both radio edit and Ian Masterson extended mix—for about a month now. Jesus.

I figured this hotness would only see the light of day in the UK (its due out there on iTunes and other digital stores this coming Monday). Here in the states both versions are included on the two-part compilation Super Christmas Dance Party, Vol. 3.



I love how the melody is basically directly lifted from "Love Pains" (something more evident in the intro to the extended mix.)

And fuck Mariah's hollow Xmas hits—these two broads and their 1.4-octave range are the ones making my tree gyrate this year!

It's Hurts' Morbidly Festive "All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day" Video

Synthy Manchester duo Hurts meet up with a pair of mourning broads in a cemetery in their appropriately melancholy "All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day" video. They proceed on to a funeral where, of all things, a Christmas tree shoots up out of a grave. Hot.

God bless their tortured angst. It somehow captures that undercurrent of dread that's always somehow present during what should be the most wonderful time of the year.

Christmas Jams: Hurts "All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day"

I finally allowed myself to start playing some holiday trash pop now that Thanksgiving has come and gone. The Hurts Christmas single, "All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day" conveniently covers the ground of two holidays in one title, and it's out December 14 on UK iTunes.

Given that their previous single "Stay" charted at #50 this past week (talk about "hurts"), seems the duo could use a more upbeat, festive jam to jump-start the buzz around them.

Anyway, really digging this one.
