A royal wedding will take place in the United Kingdom next year. Clarence House, the official residence of the Prince of Wales, announced on Tuesday that Prince William, second in line to the throne, will marry his girlfriend, Kate Middleton, in the spring or summer of 2011.
William and Kate, both 28, have been dating since 2003, although the real status of their relationship has never been officialy confirmed by Buckingham Palace or Clarence House. The statement released by Prince Charles’ official residence said that William and Kate were engaged last month while the couple were vacationing in Kenya.
“The wedding will take place in the spring or summer of 2011, in London…Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course,” the official announcement read. The announcement was met with delight by the U.K. Parliament, with Prime Minister David Cameron describing the event “a great day.” “A great day for our country, a great day for the royal family and obviously a great day for Prince William and for Kate,” he said.
