TIMELINE
Shaggy was born Orville Richard Burrell in Jamaica on October 22, 1968. He stayed in Jamaica as a youth and eventually moved to New York in his late teens and fought in the Gulf War. The name Shaggy came early on after his friends nicknamed him after the Scooby Doo cartoon character. By the time Shaggy hit New York his ambition for a musical career was in full-swing and Shaggy had local success with the dance track "Big Up" and "Mampie."
