Bachelor Pad Party Starts Tonight

I believe tonight, Monday, August 9, ABC's Bachelor Pad starts up. It's 2 hours long. I don't know if each episode is 2 hours long. I'll watch after the DVR records enough to give me FF ability.

The previews for Bachelor Pad seem to indicate that there is a lot of drama in the Bachelor Pad. Drama on a Reality TV Show is usually entertaining. And alcohol fueled

I'm not completely clear on how Bachelor Pad works, but I've been able to glean that it is some mutant mix between The Bachelor/Bachelorette/Big Brother and Survivor.

Nineteen former Bachelors and Bachelorettes make up the residents of the Bachelor Pad.

Each week there is a competition. The winner gets a rose. With that rose the winner is safe from being voted out of the tribe, I mean out of the Bachelor Pad. The rose winner gets to pick, I think, 3 people to go on a date with him or her. On that date the first rose winner gives out another immunity rose.

Chris Harrison is the host, so that should guarantee a certain level of smarm. That girl that Jason Mesnik famously dumped, Melissa Rycroft, shows up in some role. Maybe she runs the eviction segment.

All the Bachelor Pad residents share one big bedroom, sleeping in bunkbeds. Apparently tonight one pair decides to share a bunk. Noisily.

I read this morning that Bachelor Pad is going to test the limits of how R-Rated a network Reality TV Show can get. Apparently this is a clothing optional, for the most part, Bachelor Pad.

Oh. One more thing. The last person in the house wins a quarter million dollars. So, Bachelor Pad is not about the search for love, it's about the search for love and money.

American Idol's Casey James the Next Bachelor?

A couple days ago I read somewhere that the host of The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Chris Harrison, thinks Cool, Texas bachelor, Casey James, would make a good choice for the next season of The Bachelor.

Supposedly Casey James makes his home, currently, in Fort Worth. Cool is a town a short distance west of Fort Worth.

Chris Harrison is a Texas native, from Dallas. The same town from whence Jake Pavelka hailed.

There are those who think maybe it is time to give North Texas a break from reality tv notoriety.

Particularly after the Jake Pavelka embarrassment, where Jake went from being seen as an aw shucks good ol' boy to now being seen as an overbearing, control freaking, nut job with an extreme case of Little Man Syndrome.

Casey James does not have Little Man Syndrome. He's tall. Casey James seems to be a nice guy, that's how he came across on American Idol. I think we saw enough of him to make a fairly accurate assessment. I don't think he is hiding an inner nutcase.

Of late The Bachelor/Bachelorette has become a bit of a legit hit. I think The Bachelorette came in #3 in last week's Nielsens. The Jake/Vienna interview debacle might have it at #1, maybe, in this week's Nielsens.

I'm assuming it's all the highly hyped drama that's turned this former snoozefest into entertainment. Awhile back it seems a lot more booze was added to the mix. Casey James has a couple booze related legal issues in his past, I think, so the bachelor booze should be no problem for him.

I've not read anything about Casey James' lovelife history, if there is some tragic backstory to be milked.

I think it'd be a good plan for The Bachelor to break the cycle of choosing the next bachelor from the pool of rejected bachelors. That is how they ended up with Jason Mesnik and Jake Pavelka. Then again, both those boys provided some pretty perverse television viewing.

Would American Idol and FOX let Casey James out of whatever contractual deal he has with them so that he could go on an ABC show and visit some Fantasy Suites?

I somehow doubt it.

Jake Pavelka Vienna Girardi Chris Harrison Bachelor Breakup Interview

I was too tired to watch The Bachelorette last night with its Jake & Vienna Breakup Special.

So, over lunch I fast forwarded through the truncated The Bachelorette episode that saw Ali dump Ty. Why? I don't know. I think I fast forwarded through that date.

I don't think this ends well for Ali.

By the time I got to the Vienna/Jake Smackdown I went out of fast forward mode and watched every uncomfortable second of Jake's embarrassing implosion.

Before I say anything else I have to say, I think Vienna came out the winner in the Smackdown.

I have never liked that Jake guy. Something just always seemed fake and off to me.

I doubt Jake has a clue about what he revealed about himself via the interview with Chris Harrison, but it was real clear this boy has some serious issues. Very controlling. Very overbearing. With an easily ignited temper.

Jake, over and over again, said that Vienna interrupting him was an example of her constantly undermining ways. Vienna's interruptions did not come off that way. To me it was more just a natural conversational argument mode. In the screencap you are seeing the moment when Jake lost his temper, lashing out angrily at Vienna, for interrupting. Vienna burst into tears and walked off the set.

That moment when Jake lost his temper, we all saw what Vienna had been putting up with. Vienna nailed Jake on his communication problems, his intimacy problems, his lying, his fame whoring and not being a pilot.

When Harrison asked Jake for examples of Vienna undermining him, well, Jake's examples revealed more of his domineering overbearingness. Apparently Vienna could not even make a suggestion as to how to arrange bedroom furniture without Jake taking it as more undermining.

Apparently all this underming, and what Jake called emasculation by Vienna, left him feeling no urge to be affectionate. Unless cameras were aimed at him.

Jake is so insecure. At one point the story of the GPS is told. Vienna asks where some building is located. Jake proceeds to tell Vienna something like it's a mile ahead, take a right and go another mile. Vienna then takes out the GPS and programs in the address. This sends Jake into what he feels is a justifiable rage, grabbing the GPS from Vienna and tossing it. He's the man. She should never question him.

Jake looked creepy during the Smackdown. Vienna looked vulnerable and sad. I felt sorry for her.

I'm appalled I enjoyed watching this.

The Bachelor: The Women Tell All With Rozlyn Stunning Chris Harrison

Well, of course the highlight of the women telling all on The Bachelor was going to be Rozlyn, she being the girl caught canoodling with one of the show's producers, which got her booted in the most shocking booting in the history of TV.

When it came Rozlyn's turn to sit in the witness chair, for her Chris Harrison prosecution, she turned Clintonesque with an "I did not have sex with that man" stance, no matter how many times Chris asked, Rozlyn assured him that absolutely nothing happened.

Then Chris called on some other witnesses. Sweet Ella testified she saw Rozlyn on all fours with her butt stuck in the air, asking for her producer boyfriend because she was ready to be put to bed.

Ashleigh testified she'd seen Rozlyn and her boy friend touching.

Jessie swore she saw the lovebirds on top of each other on the stairs. Jessie swore on her puppy's life that she was telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Which caused Rozlyn to call Jessie's puppy bluff and raise her one by swearing on her child's life that nothing happened. I did not realize Rozlyn had reproduced til then.

The best moment came when Rozlyn turned prosecutorial and put Chris Harrison on the witness stand, accusing Harrison of hitting on her boyfriend's wife while they were in New Zealand. Harrison looked stunned, saying "I will not dignify that with a response." In other words he took the 5th.

I was looking forward to Michelle acting kooky. I was disappointed. Shown clips of her odd behavior, Michelle said she had no regrets.

Elizabeth fessed up to regretting implementing her no kiss plan, the one with all the "you really want to kiss me, don't you, I'm a really good kisser" type teasing.

Watching this train wreck I've long thought Jake is not the brightest candle in the room. The outtake segment had a Jake moment that confirmed that. Jake looks at the camera and asks, "What exactly does self-deprecating mean? That's not the same as self-defecating is it?

I wonder if he got an answer? If not, I hope Jake does not follow anyone's advice to be more self-deprecating, til he learns what it actually means.

Next week we learn how Jake's amazing journey to find a wife ends. And then the week after that is the After The Rose show where we learn that it just didn't work out. I'm guessing.

The Bachelor: Aftermath Of The Rozlyn Affair

Interesting aftermath reaction all over the Internet regarding last night's dramatic booting of Rozlyn from The Bachelor after she was caught by the producers of the show doing some inappropriate canoodling with a staffer who was immediately fired.

The Bachelor's host, Chris Harrison blogs about each episode of The Bachelor. Naturally the majority of his blog this week dealt with the Rozlyn Scandal, but he also touched on the head games of Elizabeth.

One Internet commenter had this to say about Elizabeth's behavior on last night's show....

I think Elizabeth read one of those books about playing hard to get right before she went on the show.And then she totally blew her "good girl" thing by her rambling and teasing about it during the fireworks. It's like she was thrilled it was working, and was showing it. He had to realize saying no was new to her.

And who the hell says they're not going to kiss until they're engaged?

She so overplayed the whole thing.

In Chris Harrison's blog he claims several of the girls had witnessed Rozlyn's shenanigans. Then why did they all act so shocked at the, well, shocking turn of events?

Below is the bulk of what Chris Harrison had to say about last night's "Shocking" episode of The Bachelor...

You heard me say in the episode that Rozlyn and one of our staffers entered into an inappropriate relationship. I realize this is somewhat vague and open to interpretation, so let me be more specific. It was an inappropriate relationship that got physical. This was not just about one person's "feelings" for another. We would never go to such extremes because of a schoolyard crush. After extensive research and doing our homework we came to the conclusion without a shadow of a doubt that an inappropriate relationship had occurred. Now the million dollar question: How do we know this? First of all, several girls in the house independently witnessed the inappropriate behavior firsthand, and they came forward and told producers what was taking place. Second, the staffer came forward and confessed everything himself. He told executive producers everything about his inappropriate physical relationship with Rozlyn. As I clearly stated on the show last night, we took what happened very seriously and this staffer was let go immediately. With what you saw last night and with what I just told you there should now be no doubt or questions whatsoever as to what really happened during Rozlyn's short time on the show. I can also tell you here that since Rozlyn left the show she and the staffer have continued their relationship and have seen each other several times. Let me be very clear that as unfortunate as all this was there are no ill feelings toward anybody involved and we wish both of them well. In the little time I got to know her, Rozlyn was a very nice young lady and in no way would I ever want to add any undue stress or embarrassment to her life. So that's what happened, now let me tell you exactly how it happened.

I arrived to the second rose ceremony just like any other day, but things quickly changed. Executive producers pulled me aside and told me pretty much word for word what I just wrote above. At this point the cocktail party had already started and Jake, the ladies, and the majority of the crew knew nothing about what was going on and were continuing as usual. Once the executive producers gave me the details there was no question as to what had to happen. In the past there have been things, like Wes last season, where we want real life scenarios to play out for the bachelor or bachelorette. But on this occasion, a line was crossed that just couldn't be tolerated and it had to be dealt with immediately. Executive producers told me that I would be the one that would pull Rozlyn aside and explain to her that we knew everything about her relationship with our staffer and that she would have to leave the show immediately. They also informed me that I would also then have to tell Jake and the women.

I can't begin to tell you how uncomfortable this made me feel. I honestly felt sick to my stomach. I don't know if you noticed in the episode but when I first started talking to her outside I had to pause because I got a little choked up. I was emotional and I can easily say this was one of the toughest things I've had to deal with in the eight years I've been hosting this show. I thought Rozlyn handled it very well and was dignified about the whole thing. Talking to Rozlyn was tough but telling Jake just flat out sucked. I knew that he really liked this girl and she was, in fact, one of his frontrunners at the time. At first Jake was pissed and I can't blame him. No doubt some of that anger was directed at us and deservedly so.

I'm sure you could tell but I was pretty much flying by the seat of my pants. There is no formula for this and we really had no idea exactly how Jake would respond. He quickly composed himself and decided that he wanted to be with me when I told the other women. I have to give Jake a ton of credit. I don't know if I could have been as composed having just heard that kind of news. By the time Jake and I joined the women they had seen Rozlyn leave and obviously knew something major had just taken place. You could cut the tension in that room with a knife when we entered. The women were already emotional and I hadn't even told them what happened yet. As I was telling them what exactly happened all I remember is the look in their eyes and how deadly quiet it was in that room. You also have to remember that not all of the crew knew and many of them were finding out as I gave these speeches so they were also stunned. The mood and feeling in the house that night was unlike anything I've experienced on this show, and I hope it will be the last time. You also need to understand that this was one of our co-workers and for many a very good friend who had been involved in this and was suddenly not there anymore. So it was a very emotional night for our crew as well. This is the first time where everybody in the house, us included, had to come to grips with something like this at the same time.

To sum all of this up just let me say again that I wish nothing but the best for these two, I really do. This was an unfortunate incident that played out before all of our eyes. As I said on the show we were not only disappointed but we were a little embarrassed as well. However, since The Bachelor is a reality show it means being truthful about what happened and showing everything that occurred even if it makes us uncomfortable. We take great pride in this show and I will tell you that we have one of the most amazing crews in the business. We have become a tight knit family over the last eight years and it is my sincere hope that we never have to deal with an incident like this ever again.

I agree. Then again, it did make for some good TV.
