Conan Premiere audience tops Jay Leno, David Letterman

Conan O'Brien could end his basic cable comeback this morning and consider the whole experiment a wild success.

 

The Monday, November 8 launch of TBS' "Conan" drew a whopping 4.155 million viewers, topping all of O'Brien's late-night competition on the networks and cable. 

 

That's impressive enough, but TBS is eager to boast about not just the sheer volume of the "Conan" audience, but also its youth. The overall viewership includes 3.285 million viewers among adults 18-49, a group that includes 2.451 million viewers between 18-34.

 

The audience for the "Conan" premiere, which featured Seth Rogen, Lea Michele and Jack White as guests, had a median age of just 30.

 

"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" drew only 3.5 million viewers, while "Late Show with David Letterman" stood at 3.4 million in early estimates. Neither network show was even within sight of "Conan" among young viewers.

Jay Leno Reacts To Conan's Emmy Nominations

A relatively self-deprecating response from Jay Leno to the 4 Emmy nominations for his interim replacement at the helm of The Tonight Show that would've been prettty classy had Leno at least mentioned Conan O'Brien by name. At the opening of tonight's show, Leno said, "The Emmy nonminations were announced today. The good news -- Tonight Show got 4 nominations. The bad news -- I didn’t get one of them." (Leno was shut out of the race.) "And David Letterman didn’t get nominated either. Oh man. I guess Dave and I will be watching the Emmys at Oprah’s house this year," he said, a reference to the trio's Super Bowl commercial.

Conan O'Brien TBS Late-night Show Debuting in November

Conan O'Brien, the 46-year-old late-night funny man, is headed to TBS with a new show premiering in November!

"I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly.” Conan said in a statement.

He also made a announcement through his Twitter, saying “The good news: I will be doing a show on TBS starting in November! The bad news: I'll be playing Rudy on the all new Cosby Show.”

Conan's new show will air Monday through Thursday at 11 p.m., moving George Lopez’s show Lopez Tonight to midnight.
