Finally, Jobs was asked if he was worried about Microsoft's upcoming media player (Zune) and its "community" features:
In a word, no. I've seen the demonstrations on the Internet about how you can find another person using a Zune and give them a song they can play three times. It takes forever. By the time you've gone through all that, the girl's got up and left! You're much better off to take one of your earbuds out and put it in her ear. Then you're connected with about two feet of headphone cable.

With the iPod, you only need one to share music via the earbuds (or dual jack and second set of earbuds).

Again, the military is inextricable from the economy. Not only are large sectors heavily dependent on military spending (like the town of 150,000 just west of me, that would utterly collapse if its two bases were closed), but a weaker military would risk tremendous losses in international commerce as foreign nations take back control of their own markets and resources absent the pressure of potential American military action.

Apple sold it's OS's for Mac hardware only, long before people started running OS X on PC's.
Mac OS's sold without hardware are sold as upgrades. End of story.

As I didn't respond to post #36 back then, allow me to take this opportunity to say, @fragiledreams, HAHAHA!
On point, I still see people on the train to work using iPod Classics quite often. Sure, they look kind of beat up and old (the iPods, not the people) but they haven't been replaced by iPod Touches either, so there's continuing demand for them.

My two cents:
Glasses-free 3D in its current iteration seems hardly more than a gimmick. Viewing angles are bad, viewing distance is wacky, and it causes headaches after prolonged use. Not to mention the tech required increases the thickness of the panels.
For Apple to implement this type of technology, it would probably need to develop an in-house solution (or at least something after close corroboration with another company). Since few - if any - rumors to that effect have surfaced, it seems reasonable to believe that any such venture is at the very least not particularly close to fruition.
And even assuming they had the propriety tech, I agree with many others on this forum who believe the implementation would increase the price fairly dramatically. My guess is that Apple will strive to maintain their competition-bustingly low prices.

While we don't know exactly how the Firmware update was designed, it would appear as though the update will simply ignore symptoms of a SMC short circuit to allow the laptop to continue operating. If this is the case it may degrade a MacBook's ability to detect true over-heat situations.
This is what I assumed when I read that the update "resolves" the issue, which is pretty optimistic wording. Perhaps they implemented some firmware method to detect overheating that doesn't rely on the sensor. I would love to know more information, since this update will appear for everyone with a MacBook whether or not they've been experiencing the shutdowns.

Based on scripture I personally believe that while man is definitely capable of "good" due to the fact that he has been created in the image of God, that image has been marred by sin. This leaves man in a "broken" condition and at the core we are selfish by nature. I would really like to see what the difference in size between the new nanos and old nanos is. if it really is 52% smaller, which doesn't look it from the picture, I will definitely consider picking one up. has anyone seen any side by side pictures of the new and old nano?

Well, lets see where would they put it? Between Mac Mini and iMac.... you know in that $200 difference. Or maybe between iMac and Pro Mac.... in that what $300 difference. It seems like the Mac Mini bump and iMac expansion have left no room in the line-up for another Mac. Even with conroes... all speeds, sizes, prices are covered. There isn't room for a Conroe Mac. Period.
Price gaps, sure, I'll give you that, but you are comparing apples to oranges if you're comparing the Mini and Mac Pro (headless) to an iMac (AIO). What about the people who already have a nice 24" display (or whatever) - what are their options? Throw away their dislpay and buy an iMac? Sure, they could sell it I suppose, but why, if they like it and it works perfectly? So, otherwise, their options are a Mac mini or a Mac Pro - nothing in between. Where is the machine with the iMac's specs (which are perfect for most users) which isn't AIO? For many people the mini is slightly underpowered, and the Mac Pro is overkill. And many people do not want an AIO and prefer easy upgradeability.

I say iTunes Movie Store and new iPod nanos. Possibly a rev of the iMacs, since they were the first ones to go Intel.
I really don't see a new iPod with video, but I could be wrong... i was last year when the 5G came out.

Suddenly I am interested in this news.
My father in law's 17" PB just died last night. Apparently leaving dumb bells on the lid is bad for the laptop. :rolleyes:
He is going to Turkey for three months at the end of this month and was intending to take the PB and my iSight camera so he can talk with us while he's there. Things have suddenly changed.

Give us a strong iOS and MacOSX upgrade this summer and then follow it up with a new iPhone in October and a retina version of the iPad and iPod Touch in the fall and Apple would be on fire for the holidays.

These set ups have inspired me to have some fun with mine just sold my MacBook pro and upgraded to something nice will probably post my new set up next week when I get them in the mail
