Chalk lists down the top 10 cocktails in the country this October 2010

This month, Chalk lists down the top 10 cocktails in the country—and where to get them!—with a comprehensive guide of the best gimmick hotspots from Manila to Cebu!
DJ and party boy extraordinaire Jon Herrera reveals the secrets to throwing a bash everyone will be talking about. Rising stars Felix Roco, Bret Jackson, Julz Savard, and Coleen Garcia talk about their road to stardom and how they’re dealing with their transition to fame. Plus, how to wear monochromatic color, guys spill on what makes a good kiss, fun makeup ideas for Halloween, ADMU basketballer Bacon Austria’s secrets to success, and more!
It’s all in Chalk’s October issue, in newsstands now.

Survivor alumnae Jef Gaitan & Wendy Valdez in the October issue on FHM Cover this October

From the statuesque beauty that was September’s Bianca Manalo, FHM now takes you on a wild, exotic trip featuring Survivor alumnae Jef Gaitan & Wendy Valdez in the October issue, out now everywhere.

With the help of wild birds, pythons, and a rather nonchalant iguana, these untamed, reality show beauties will show you just how wild they’ve gotten. Dare we say these fiercely beautiful cover girls are sure to bring out the animal in you.

What’s sure to bring out the animal in you are the same things that brought out the animal in your dads and uncles: All-time list of Pinoy cinema’s foxiest hotties. Alma Moreno, Rio Locsin, Nanette Medved, Cristina Gonzales, Amanda Page and 21 other classic silver-screen beauties figure in this list. If FHM existed then, these women would certainly have appeared on the cover!

Another classic feature to go along those immortal hotties: Some 19 most memorable Pinoy film quotes! FHM tries to reshape their meaning and apply them in a different context.
“Kung hindi tayo kikilos, sino ang kikilos? Kung hindi ngayon, kailan pa?” was once uttered in the Vilma Santos starrer Sister Stella L. (1984). In the context of this article, we take its meaning to be “Please go out, and buy the October issue now. It’s awesome.”

Expand your hemoglobin knowledge, as the October issue also explains how to interpret bleeding from various body parts, and that nosebleeds aren’t exactly caused by an overload of English.
We dive into the complicated issues surrounding social networking too, and attempt to understand, among other things, why we add “LOL” to every comment that we fear might sound mean, and why we need to add every person we’ve ever said “hi” to in Facebook.

Justin Timberlake, 29, is placing his music career on hold and making four films in a row. Pokwang gears up for her first major concert.

Her time has come. The country’s Comedy Princess, Pokwang, is geared up for her first major concert entitled “Endangered Species” sure to bring out the animal-of-a-comedienne in her starting October 15 until October 17 at the Aliw Theater, produced by Camera Entertainment Production and line-produced by ASAP Live.
The different facets of Pokwang will be uncloaked in front of hundreds of people in her three-night show. Unleashing every piece of talent she has—from singing to dancing, from acting and impersonating, Pokwang will surely fill the whole venue with laughs and giggles. “Noong rehearsal palang tawa na kami ng tawa. Tiyak talaga na lahat ng manonood uuwi ng luhaan… luhaan dahil sa kakatawa,” Pokwang enthused.
Pokwang, though hurled by intrigues every now and then, has remained strong throughout her six-year old career in show business. “Alam ko noong pumasok ako sa showbiz na pagdadaanan ko ang mga intriga,” Pokwang shared. She added, “Pero ‘di yoon rason para panghinaan ako ng loob. Tuloy pa rin ang buhay siyempre. Tuloy pa rin ang pagbibigay ng saya. Eto nga at may isa na namang opportunity para makapagbigay aliw sa mga tao.”
The Clown in a Million Grand Winner revealed that though she has performed several times in front of thousands of people, Pokwang still finds it nerve-racking to perform in front of a crowd, big or small. “Hanggang ngayon ninenerbyos pa rin ako. Paano kung hindi matawa sakin yung mga tao ‘di ba? (laughs) Ako na lang tatawa sa sarili ko,” Pokwang quipped.
A list of the hottest stars of today will be joining Pokwang in her highly-anticipated concert: Pooh, Chokoleit, Elizabeth Ramsey, and Mahal; (October 15) Sam Milby and Zsazsa Padilla; (October 16) Mommy Dionesia, Melai Cantiveros, Regine Velasquez and Piolo Pascual; (October 17) Melai Cantiveros, John Lloyd Cruz and Kuh Ledesma.
Directed by Johnny Manahan, ‘Endangered Species’ is out to feed the whole audience with a bucketful of comedy and laughter. A pre-Halloween concert treat for the whole family. Brought to you by ASAP Live, ABS-CBN, Camera Entertainment Productions and Ultramega. For tickets, call SM Cinema Outlets at 470-2222 , Aliw Theater at 8326121 or Ticketworld at 891-9999.

Sky Ferreira Just Scored Extra Points For Casting Michael Madsen In Her "Obsession" Video

Violence, from a distance, has always caught my attention. Weird, I know. Maybe it's a fascination with the human condition. Taxi Driver is my favorite movie (thanks for introducing me to that one at an impressionable age, mom!). And naturally I've taken in, oh, all of Quentin Tarantino's flicks over the years.

So color me giddy, if not a bit surprised, that the object of desire in question in teen poplet Sky Ferreira's "Obsession" video turns out to be none other than Michael Madsen, here in full-on Reservoir Dogs Vic Vega—aka "Mr. Blonde"—mode. Let's just overlook the fact that she's 18 and he's 53, and she's rolling around like a sex kitten while fantasizing about him, shall we?

No, Madsen doesn't saw some poor cop's ear off in Sky's vid. He does, however, snip off some tied-up chick's hair. Worry not. She's a "mean girl."

Don't get me wrong—I still think "Obsession" as a song is a bit of a letdown after Ferreira's far superior offering "One."

But at least we get to see Madsen in his greatest roll since he got wasted by a black mamba in Kill Bill.

Seal Secret Music Video: Seal’s New Version of “Secret” Featuring Heidi Klum

Seal has released a new version of his latest music video for "Secret", the first single from his upcoming album "Seal 6: Commitment”.

Seal Secret Music Video featuring Heidi Klum

The black and white clip, featuring the 47-year-old soul/R&B singer and his gorgeous wife Heidi Klum, is talking about the huge parts of Seal’s life, including love, family, and being committed to both. And the real-life couple was seen embracing, caressing and kissing in the music video

"It's the story of two people in love. My husband is what I always wanted and never thought I would have." Klum, 37, told Us Weekly of the video.

"The song, the movie, it's the story of our love," Seal added.

U.S. Chart Roundup: Brace Yourselves—'Glee' Is A Hit Or Something

The main activity on the Billboard Hot 100 this week comes from the songs that appeared in the Season 2 premiere of Glee. The singing troupe of TV dorks see their following covers hit the chart: "Empire State Of Mind" (#21), "Telephone" (#23), "Billionaire" (#28) [Note: for the record, I fucking hate this song], "Listen" (#38) and "What I Did For Love" (#51).

Elsewhere, all does not seem lost just yet for Selena Gomez & The Scene's moody dance-pop jam "A Year Without Rain." After dropping from #35 to #65 last week, the single now jumps up to #53. Her same-named album debuts on the Top 200 album chart at #4. (Is it any good? I've only heard a few clips—seems decent enough?)

That brings us to Florence + The Machine, whose "Dog Days Are Over" sadly falls from #21—where it flew to after Flo's stellar MTV VMAs performance the other week—to #73. Over on the Top 200, FATM's Lungs has a less dramatic plunge from #14 to #28.

And we'll end with these two final notes—first up, Brandon Flowers' Flamingo, which debuted at #8 last week, drops to #30. I actually made it the whole way through this album twice. It's not bad. It's just...there.

And at least Christina Aguilera can be happy that she's finally #1 again somewhere. Her Bionic single "You Lost Me" has topped the Dance/Club Play Songs chart. Triumph!

The U.S. Top 10:

1. "Just The Way You Are" - Bruno Mars" *2 weeks*
2. "Teenage Dream" - Katy Perry
3. "Love The Way You Lie" - Eminem feat. Rihanna
4. "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" - Usher feat. Pitbull
5. "Dynamite" - Taio Cruz
6. "Like A G6" - Far*East Movement
7. "Just A Dream" - Nelly
8. "Only Girl (In The World)" - Rihanna
9. "I Like It" - Enrique Iglesias feat. Pitbull
10. "Club Can't Handle Me" - Flo Rida feat. David Guetta

Sam Raimi Alien Invasion Movie

Vulture is reporting that "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi and District 9 producer Bill Block are in negotiations with Warner Bros. to set up a new movie called EDF, which stands for "Earth Defense Force." Raimi is not expected to direct. The film is reportedly based on a script by Air Force One screenwriter and "Castle" executive producer Andrew Marlowe. Block's QED International (District 9) is co-financing the project.

The movie is said to open with an alien attack to test our defenses and a more massive attack coming in 10 months. Before then, world leaders have to figure out how to fight off the coming invasion.

Star Wars Re-Release in 3D

Lucasfilm announced today that they will be releasing the 3D conversions of the entire Star Wars  saga starting in 2012. Rumors go back and forth between them releasing one film per year to a timeline quicker than that. Lucasfilm told me that it's too early to discuss the release pattern. The first film released will be The Phantom Menace. Starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace. THR is reporting that February 2012 is the basic timeframe. Previously we'd only heard 'early 2012,' with the other five remasters to follow on roughly an annual schedule, assuming each previous release does well. John Knoll, a visual effects supervisor of Ilm which oversees the 3-D conversion of "Star Wars", has previously said that they won't do the conversion in a rush. "Getting good results on a stereo conversion is a matter of taking the time and getting it right," he stated.

My Interview With Adam Levine Of Maroon 5

I recently interviewed Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine. You can read part of the one-on-one over at Idolator, and more in the current (October) issue of Instinct.

NOTE: a not-so-minor typo found its way into the Instinct piece. (Grrrrr!) For the second question, I began to ask him, "As a fellow Californian, I wanted to ask you....", and he cut me off and jokingly finished my sentence, "...how long have I been gay?"

Somewhere along the way, this mistakenly got printed as me just asking him how long he's been gay. (Not my fault, Adam!) I mean, I'm ballsy, but not that ballsy.

Emma Stone Is Relieved She Didn't Become 'Some Crazy, Emancipated Nutter'

Nylon's "It" list isn't the only countdown Emma's found herself on. The stunning red head has also landed spots on some of the "World's Sexiest Women" lists, which she can hardly believe. "That's just ridiculous…" she told Nylon's reporter. "Now that you've hung out with me a few times you know how ridiculous that is. All my friends and family are like, 'That is the funniest thing I have ever seen.'" A lot of people would disagree with you on this one!

We love a girl with a great sense of humor, and it appears Emma would rather use her energy to get giggles over fretting about her looks. "I think my ultimate goal at the end of the day is to make my parents laugh," she said. "Maybe that is what this is all about: a roundabout way of trying to entertain my parents, just like I did in the living room when I was a kid." All together now: Awwwww.

Are you an Emma Stone fan? What did you think of "Easy A"?

The Northern Lights have petered out during the second half of this decade

The Northern Lights have petered out during the second half of this decade, becoming rarer than at any other time in more than a century, the Finnish Meteorological Institute said Tuesday.

The Northern Lights, or aurora borealis, generally follow an 11-year "solar cycle", in which the frequency of the phenomena rises to a maximum and then tapers off into a minimum and then repeats the cycle.

"The solar minimum was officially in 2008, but this minimum has been going on and on and on," researcher Noora Partamies told AFP.

"Only in the past half a year have we seen more activity, but we don't really know whether we're coming out of this minimum," she added.

[Oceans of fire? A 'dance' of dead spirits? Myths and facts about the polar auroras' curtains of light]

The Northern Lights, a blaze of coloured patterns in the northern skies, are triggered by solar winds crashing into the earth and being drawn to the magnetic poles, wreaking havoc on electrons in the parts of the atmosphere known as the ionosphere and magnetosphere.

So a dimming of the Northern Lights is a signal that activity on the sun which causes solar winds, such as solar flares and sun sports, is also quieting down.

For researchers like Partamies, it is the first time they can observe through a network of modern observation stations what happens to this solar cycle when it becomes as badly disrupted as it is now.

"We're waiting to see what happens, is the next maximum going to be on time, is it going to be late, is it going to be huge?" Partamies said.

During the cycle's peak in 2003, the station on Norway's Svalbard island near the North Pole, showed that the Northern Lights were visible almost every single night of the auroral season, which excludes the nightless summer months.

That figure has fallen to less than 50y percent, while the southernmost station, situated in southern Finland, has been registering only two to five instances annually for the past few years.

Day Zero

Today, after reading some Lists of 101 Things to Do in 1001 Days that my friends have created (and have blogs to follow them), I was inspired to create my own.

Strangely enough, up until today, I've never been interested in creating my own list. I figured that I couldn't afford to do the extravagant stuff, and the little stuff...well, I'd get around to doing it without a list.

But today, something changed. I don't know why. Like I said, the urge just hit me. I visited the Day Zero website for ideas and within a few hours, I had created my own account and list of 101 Things. Basically, for those of you who are wondering, it's just a list of goals and and tasks that I've often thought, "Hey, I'd like to try that..." but never have. This list is my motivation. It will be interesting to see how many of them I can accomplish in the next 1001 days!

To keep up with my list, I've made the decision to create another blog, seperate from this one, on which I will publish my list and as I check things off the list, I'll blog about them, and hopefully post some pictures too.

Today is my Day Zero. Tomorrow the list will go up and the adventure will begin.

Feel free to check out the new blog at : http://jills-101-adventure.blogspot.com/ ...come along for the ride! :)
