OH good lord what a crock of poo. How can Wal Mart threaten Hollywood studios? What will Wal Mart do, stop selling DVDs and hurt its own retail business? Silly.

As I said in my earlier post, Walmart can easily threaten almost any consumer product in the country with the simple phrase, "...or we'll remove it from our shelves."

If your CD or DVD isn't carried by Walmart, you're blocking a HUGE amount of potential buyers.

CDs are even worse than DVDs, where a new release that isn't carried by Walmart is almost certainly prevented from entering the Top 10.

    Ah, I didn't see that.

It's hardly very prominent, considering this is meant to be a, potentially, very dangerous problem.

Anyway, I can't be bothered to call Apple, I'll just wait and see how this all pans out.
Yeah, not very eye-catching. It's the same size as the copyright info. Looks like some more insignifcant legal disclaimer stuff.

While that thread is indeed hilarious, keep in mind that the thing cost $399 and was Mac and FireWire-only. It would never have taken off if it weren't for the big changes in future revisions that fixed those issues.

Except China is like a plague of locusts consuming raw materials. All of the coal, petroleum, steel, concrete, etc. they are importing is coming from somewhere else, and procuring these things has negative environmental impact for where theyre sourced.

Because before China, no other country in the world with factories EVER sourced raw materials from other countries.

If countries in Africa, the Middle East, and elsewhere weren't mining, growing, and extracting materials for factories in China, they'd be sourcing materials for factories in India, America, Europe, South Asia, Japan, Korea, or elsewhere. Unfortunately these countries tend to have weak or corrupt governments that don't care about environmental degradation or can't do anything meaningful about it.

Maybe countries with factories that source raw materials from other countries have a responsibility to help those other countries develop mechanisms to protect their environment. But I've yet to see this happen on a meaningful scale anywhere.

Saw that one coming. I cringe everytime I see an Apple security commercial. It's like spitting in the hackers face.

I think everyone did it was just a matter of time until there was a wireless exploit. I personally think with the uptake of more Apple systems and the perception of better security on Apple systems many people see this as a challange to break a Mac (ala Hack a Mac).

Either way it still isn't as bad as Windows

But would they still be believers if they really read the Old Testament? The evidence within it for polytheism is rife. Worshipping Yahweh/Jehovah/El is like worshipping Zeus or Jupiter. And Satan is Baal (Beelzebub). Not many Zeus-worshippers around these days, though, are there?

Well, this is one of those areas where we disagree on the historical evidence and the interpretation. I don't see evidence in the old testament that would support the view that it was written to support polytheism or that it was a re-writing of polytheistic accounts with the goal of popularizing monotheism.

Sure, there is description of the polytheistic cultures of the Canaanite people, the Egyptians, and other people of that time, but the overarching story of God's revelation to man is unified starting with God's establishment of the covenant with Abraham.

Now, God's people were not always faithful to him. In fact the entire story of the nation of Israel is one of God attempting to unify his chosen people and their repeated failure to be consistently true to him. Even King Solomon who built the temple, fell away later in life, as he become open to idol worship.

In the old testament itself there is no confusion between Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim or any of the other names for God. They point solely to God the father, the creator and sustainer of life. The reference to Genesis 1:26 you pointed to in your previous post is not referring to multiple gods either. You must remember that the Bible reveals God to be triune, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The "mystery" of the trinity has been debated, but scripture both, old and new testament, point to this fact and thus there are times when the original languages are in singular tense and there are also times when the original languages are in plural tense.

I think this attitude comes from backlash due to the fact that historically, men have been "king of the castle" and women have been subjugated. It's almost as if people are trying to make up for that.

This is silly; relationships should be on equal grounds. And EVERYONE should be able to do something awesome for themselves now and then, whether it be an iPad, a nice meal out, and so on.

That's not our fault that men of the past were like that, why should men of today pay for the mistakes of yesteryears?

I really like this one. I wonder, though, if it wouldn't be a bit better by cropping the fence out of the bottom. That way I can "step" into the frame much more easily, I think.

The real story, iPhones will be getting backside illumination, which will mean better low-light pictures, right?

iPhone 4 has backside illumination. Have you watched Steve Jobs introduction last year of iPhone 4?

Ok, so here is what I think is happening. The release of MBP may happen before the iPad because Apple want to have customers buy both the iPad and the MBP. On the other hand, the release of a brand new product (iPad) is critical for them and they need to pull everything into it. That's why they choose not releasing MBP untill AFTER the iPad in fear of killing the interest of it.

So my conclusion is that it's either happening this tuesday or never...

and by never I mean many weeks after the iPad launch, far out in april :(

Freshman Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) tested his comedy act during a speech at the Congressional Correspondents' Dinner on Wednesday night, taking aim at Newt Gingrich with an edgy joke comparing the former Speaker of the House's recent flap over flip-flopping on his Libya stance to his number of wives.

"I was happy to see that Newt Gingrich has staked out a position on the war, a position, or two, or maybe three. I don't know. He may have more war positions than he's had wives," Paul said, seemingly triggering more shocked murmurs than laughs. HuffPo (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/31/rand-paul-newt-gingrich-wives_n_843085.html)

Speaking of bad jokes, who wrote Ron Paul's newsletters in the 80s?

 Here's a possibly dumb question, but per Apple's support site, the following video play back specs are given for iPod (5G) playback:

iPod can play the following video formats:

    H.264
File formats: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
Video: Up to 768 kbits/sec, 320 x 240, 30 frames per second (fps), Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3.
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 kbits/sec, 48 Khz, and stereo audio.
    MPEG-4
File formats: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
    Video: Up to 2.5 Mbits/sec, 480 x 480, 30 fps, Simple Profile.
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 kbits/sec, 48 Khz, stereo audio.

How will the new, higher resolution video play back on the current iPods? Do they currently have higher resolution capability that Apple was just holding back through software?

The MPEG4 standard (which includes h.264) is scalable, so lower resolution devices will only decode to the lower resolution and not spend the extra time/power to decode to full resolution. There's a lot of complex details, but that's the quick gist of it.

As an ex-employee of a computer retail store, I always used to get the questions.."What's the different between XP home & Pro?" "Does XP Pro come with Word, that's why it costs more?" Etc..

Microsoft continues to ship buggy software and confuse the hell out of people.
And for those complaining that OS X was more expensive than Windows Vista over time, think again...The updates aren't as needed from one version to the next, so you may choose to skip one or two, for example from 10.3 to 10.4, and skip to 10.5. It will cost you $129.99 (or whatever the price for 10.5 is), while Windows Vista costs a lot more, and it's just another bugged version of Windows XP.

I went Mac a year ago and will NEVER buy/build another PC.

Also why is a cup of tea/coffee up there? There is a small 3rd party prog that uses the icon, I'm just wondering why its up there... perhaps to promote the use of Macs in coffee shops =)

That's the Mac style logo for Sun's Java. Been in use for a while now.

I assume the Merom is inside?

But these babies are gr8 value!

Luckily you don't have to choose for the 7300... you can get the better 7600 inside. Not brilliant, but it's better.

So that must be it for the ATI partnership, or at least the first nail in the coffin. Nvidia is a good move anyway.
