King Tappa says end the cycle of "Domestic Violence" this Father's Day

Dominican-born, New Jersey-based, Reggae artist King Tappa hopes that the message in his song “Domestic Violence” will resonate with listeners and bring greater awareness of the effects of domestic violence on women and children. As Father’s Day approaches, his message that parents’ actions affect their children could not be more timely.

He says he was inspired to write the song not only because of stories shared with him by his friends, but because he too has also witnessed domestic violence first hand. Additionally, co-writing the song with Melissa Casimir allowed for a broader perspective, which led to an in depth discussion of the issues and set in motion the concept for the video which depicts the issue from the point of view of the child.

According to King Tappa, “The video was shot that way because we wanted to let the audience know the effect that violence can have on kids. The main character was surrounded by a lot of violence but she didn't give up on her education, and despite being sad, she still comforted her mom, who was being abused, and remained a strong figure for her family.”

His message to parents, “Spend as much time with your kids as possible because they need it. In the world that we're living in right now there's too much negativity surrounding us and we as parents should teach our children good values and show them love—not only by words but by example. Kids look up to their dads, so if a father is showing positive things most likely the kid will follow that path.

When it comes to domestic violence, says King Tappa, most people don't know the signs and those who do won't address it. “The most important message here is to seek help, speak about it.” He is doing his part with this song which encourages the victims of domestic abuse to find a partner who will treat you like a good woman/who will hold you on a pedestal/who praises you for all the good you do.

“Domestic Violence” was produced by Martiniquean Daniel "Don Shorty Productions" Dubois, on the Head In Stars Riddim. The official video for the song was directed by Mo Green of Cape Verde. The video has been picked up for rotation by Tempo and has been presented to several other networks including BET. Look out for more songs from King Tappa this year and please support his fifth annual Project Book Bag drive aimed at offering literary support for Dominica’s youth.

Couple updates: Garcelle and Michael, Swizz Beatz and Mashonda, Tessanne Chin and Michael Anthony Cuffe Jr

After putting her husband on blast for cheating (she emailed his co-workers about it), Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon has filed for divorce from her husband Michael.

Michael and Garcelle with their twins Jaid and Jax
According to TMZ:
She filed the documents in L.A. County Superior Court on May 10 -- just two days before their 9-year wedding anniversary.
Garcelle and Michael have 2-year-old twins together -- she is seeking joint legal and physical custody.
As for spousal support -- Garcelle has requested that the judge not award anything to Michael.

In other couples news, Swizz Beatz settled out of court with his ex-Mashonda, to avoid going to court on June 10th. She claimed the 31-year-old producer owed $334,000 in delinquent child support and alimony debt.

Mashonda and Swizzy with their son Kasseem Dean Jr.

Swizz Beatz, who is currently on tour with his pregnant fiance Alicia Keys, recently told the New York Post:
his ex's allegations that he owes $325,000 in equitable distribution and $9000 in alimony and child support are "inaccurate" and "overblown" and said that he's gone "above and beyond" to provide for her and their 13-year-old son, Kasseem Jr.

He said he'd agreed to pay Dean more than the judge required and much more than his lawyer recommended - he even had to sign court papers acknowledging that he was going against his attorney's advice.

"I gave over what the judge was recommending to give. I gave her $700,000 upfront, because I thought $200,000 wasn't enough for what she wanted to do. I still get spit in my face for it," he said.

And a little closer to the region. Tessanne Chin is engaged!

Dancehall.Mobi states:

Dancehall/reggae singer Tessanne Chin is said to be on ‘cloud nine’ today, as her boyfriend – former television presenter, Michael Anthony Cuffe Jr. – reportedly popped the question yesterday, and asked for her hand in marriage during a large family gathering at the home of her sister, Tami Chynn. A teary-eyed Tessanne reportedly said yes, and the couple were cheered on by the many family members on hand, which included both sets of parents. No details forthcoming on a wedding date as yet!

Would you let your daughter see Rihanna do this????

Rihanna is all over Europe right now on her "Last Girl On Earth Tour" and will soon be in the US and Canada. From all the pics I have seen, her costuming and actions are very sexually suggestive. Now it's not like she is reinventing the wheel right? We are not surprised when Madonna, Grace Jones, Lil Kim, or a more recent example, Nicki Minaj do it. Is it safe to say that many of her core fans are teenagers??? I honestly don't have any statistics but if I was a mom of a teenage daughter (or son for that matter) I don't know that I would send or take my child to see this. I guess the staging has to match are lyrics huh???? What's your take?????

ABOUT BLUEPRINT
Blueprint

USA, 2007, 75 Minute Running Time
Genre/Subjects: Black / African American, Coming Out, Drama, Gay, Youth
Program: U.S. Features
Language: English

DIRECTOR: Kirk Shannon-Butts

Keith is a reserved, straitlaced transplant to New York City from Los Angeles; Nathan is a street-smart, potsmoking Brooklynite who lives on the edge — or so he’d like Keith to believe. At first glance, nothing about these two young African American college students suggests romantic compatibility. But a casual courtship gradually develops amidst minor bickering and disagreements — those familiar interstices inside which nascent love restlessly takes shape.
After a chance meeting in a Harlem coffee shop — in which Keith dismisses hip hop as mere pop music while Nathan defends it as the reflection of a society — the two embark on a first date to the countryside on Nathan’s motorcycle. Pot is inhaled, skinny-dipping ensues and love continues to grow despite more fights and setbacks. But Blueprint is more concerned with the quiet, contemplative moments of this blossoming romance than with stealth sex and simmering anger. There is messiness in Keith and Nathan’s union, but it is more defined by their quiet admiration for one another than their quarreling. In his feature debut, Kirk Shannon-Butts serves up an achingly observant slow burn that, as its title suggests, serves as a plan of action that can be used as a guide to the future. Equal parts urban valentine — its scenes of Harlem street life are both ravishing and real — and pastoral romance, redolent of Kelly Reichert’s transcendant indie delight Old Joy, Blueprint is a winsome tribute to self-discovery and young love. — ANDY BAILEY

Gaza Kim out of the Empire after beating, remaining members deny involvement!

Wow....two down, one more to go. Gaza Indu, after what happen to Lisa Hype (now Lisa Hyper) and Gaza Kim (now Kym), I say watch your back girl. Gaza Kim is officially out of Portmore Empire after she was beaten outside Big Yard studios. Fingers have been pointing to Vybz Kartel and members of the Empire as being responsible for the attack, allegations they strongly deny. Gaza Kim became part of the empire last year at age 17. She is known for her popular song with Vybz Kartel "Teenage Pregnancy."

From Jamaica Star:

Several members of the Portmore Empire have been quick to deny being beaten, as well as any involvement or knowledge of any beating that have taken place in the crew.

As news of an assault on teenage singer and member of the Portmore Empire, Gaza Kim at 'Big Yard', off Mannings Hill Road, spread in the media yesterday, other members of the Portmore Empire have since contacted THE STAR to proclaim their innocence.

Rumours have been circulating that other members of the Empire were being beaten on a regular basis and another artiste was rumoured to have been beaten over the weekend when they defended Gaza Kim.

verbal altercation

According to reports in Tuesday's STAR, Gaza Kim was at Big Yard when she and a group of men got into a verbal altercation. THE STAR source claimed that Vybz Kartel arrived on the scene and the men were instructed to beat her. A statement from Kartel, however, denied his involvement in the incident and condemned violence against females and children. A statement from Gaza Kim confirmed that she had been assaulted over the weekend and sought medical attention, details as to what happened, however, were omitted. According to the release, Gaza Kim says she will be taking legal action against her attackers.

Gaza Indu, known for songs such as Virginity alongside Vybz Kartel, was one of the first to call. Indu made it clear that she has never been beaten, nor was she present at the time that Gaza Kim was beaten. Indu said that she was calling all media contacts so as to clear her name. One of the latest females added to the Gaza crew, Sheba, also contacted THE STAR. Like Indu, Sheba stated that she was not present at 'Big Yard' over the weekend and did not appreciate that her name was being called up by the media and in rumours concerning any assault.

Two of the leading male artistes from the Empire, Blak Ryno and Jah Vinci also made contact with THE STAR yesterday. Persistent rumours of being beaten have circulated around both figures. When asked about these rumours Ryno replied, "a lot of things have been said about di Gaza that aren't true. We cannot control what is being said in the media ... I am sure about myself and I have never witnessed any one being beaten on di Gaza."

As for singer Jah Vinci persons have questioned whether he is still a member of the Portmore Empire, after rumours have spread that he no longer hangs with the popular crew. Jah Vinci however, denied these rumours saying, "Gaza fi life."

DNA Proves it -Jah Cure ain't your Baby Daddy

Jah Cure just released a statement that DNA results prove that he is not the father of a newborn.

There have been recent media reports about a DNA test result that involved Jah Cure. While not wishing to join the media circus that has ensued because of these revelations, Jah Cure wishes to outline a few facts and settle the matter once and for all. Jah Cure has supported the mother throughout her pregnancy and had his father and manager be with her at the time of delivery in the US. His support for her throughout this period was unwavering. Before the birth of the child Jah Cure requested a DNA test, a request which the mother refused. Despite this, Jah Cure continued to support the child and the mother.

Now that the DNA test has been done and it has been shown that he is not the father, Jah Cure wishes to move on.

The fact is that the most important individual in this whole affair is the child and the longer that this continues the more damage is being done to the child. Jah cure will not now abandon the child but wishes that the media respect the privacy of the parties as the child is indeed innocent and did not contribute to the mistakes of the adults involved.

The messed up part is that the mother refused DNA before the birth, Jah Cure sent his father and brother to be with her for the birth and he has to deal with a child that he probably had a bond with. the even more messed up part is this is not the first time he has been accused of fathering a child (a son that time) that was not his. Like I always say when I give opinion, who am I to judge right??? But some women just see entertainers and just think $$$$$$$. I hope that is a lesson for him and other artists to play it safe. After all, according to him condoms "are a must." And true to the press release the child is the ultimate victim. At least Jah Cure is doing a positive thing by still being there. Cyan make de chile pay for her mother mistake.

Live Sex at Jamaican Dance!

There is a DVD going around of a couple having sex at a Jamaican dance, surrounded by patrons, while being egged on by the DJ

One876Entertainment gives a pretty good description:

As the new year kicks off, there is a new trend that is gaining popularity in the dancehall where dance patrons can be treated to a live sex act right in the middle of a dance.
The trend, called Go Go Jam Jam, originated in Linstead, St. Catherine where a man and a woman indulged in live sex while a sound system played in the background, and patrons gathered around in a crude circle. The event took place at an open-air venue close to Charlemont on the Ewarton main road.

First, the event kicked off when a woman spread a thin square of cloth on a sponge mattress in the middle of the dance, then a man dressed only in an underpants came up. Two scantily-clad women then helped him to put on a condom, while the selector played 'Slew Dem Wid Karate' by Sizzla Kalonji. Afterwards the selector announced 'bloodclaat the blues start' and then after some amount of titillation by one girl, dressed in fishnet stockings, the sex act began.

The two performed with lots of gusto, having happy coitus in a stunning variety of sexual positions to songs such as Serani's She Loves Me and QQ's Stuckie. At one point, as the man pounded away in the missionary position, the other woman entered the circle and began to spank him on the butt while members of the audience put up finger gun salutes and lighters flickered in the dark.

Th selector also cheered on the 'performers' and even instructed them to change positions and try different styles, almost as if he were a porn director. The forwards were loud for Munga's Wine Pon It where the female positioned herself on top of the male, and the crowd loved how the girl simulated the popular dance to Vegas' Hot Wuk.

During the act, which has been packaged for an x-rated film called Go Go Jam Jam, the female hid her face with the aid of a handkerchief from the glare of the cameras but the man didn't seem to care that his identity was being exposed.

Yeah...the girl had a bandana tied to her face and a black wig....I think the whole thing was disgusting....she is very skilled yes....probably was an exotic dancer....maybe...I don't know that for a fact. Guy has a ummmm strong body...face??? no comment. At least they used a condom but doesn't it just makes you wonder is anything sacred???? If a man and his woman in the bush somewhere getting it on, who am I to judge them, but this idea of going to a dance to see people have sex, I mean come on where is the fun in that???? I dunno. I am no prude but I just think that it was not in good taste....some may ask well would it have been better if it was in a hotel room or an apartment with the same people, the DJ and all, is it because it looks "hood" or "ghetto" why people are so negative???? If it was happening in the playboy mansion and instead of Dancehall they were playing Hip-Hop or Rock and Roll would we still make a fuss???? Are we just upset because the image of the conservative Caribbean woman is coming apart???? Are we really conservative or just like to do our dirty business in secret??? This 18 min video really got me asking some questions....what about you?
