Usually, or so it seems, ex-American Idols , who have gone on to do other things, have seemed to trend to the Disneyque family style type of things. Somewhat.
Ex Idols Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young have been on Broadway, since going to Hollywood to sing and not winning American Idol.
I think Diana DeGarma came in second, maybe, in the season Fantasia won. If I remember right, Ace Young was sent home in about 7th place. His falsetto or vibrato or whatever you call it, wore on listener's ears. Or maybe it was just my tone deaf ears and I assumed it annoyed others, as well.
Diana DeGarmo was in an Off-Broadway musical called The Toxic Avenger. Ace Young was in a revival of a Broadway musical called Grease.
And now, both Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young, starting March 9, 2010, will take over roles in the Broadway revival of HAIR, which has been running since 2009.
Ace Young will play Claude. Claude is the leader of the tribe. The one who gets his hair cut, because he gets drafted to go to Vietnam.
Ace Young has been quoted as saying he has no problem with taking his clothes off for HAIR's famous nude scenes. However, unless the script has changed, Claude is the only character who does not lose his clothes.
I do not know what character Diana DeGarmo plays and have read nothing about how she feels about taking her clothes off, on stage.
I saw HAIR performed in Fort Worth, Texas. Performed by Texas Wesleyan University drama students. Despite Texas Wesleyan being some sort of Christian school. And despite Fort Worth being in the Buckle of the Bible Belt, the HAIR nude scenes remained intact.
Going to see HAIR for the nude scenes is a really dumb reason to go. It's the music that makes HAIR the best musical it has ever been my pleasure to witness. I found some of the nudity unsettling, like when this plus-sized, what I thought was a female scold, ripped of her clothes to reveal he was a she. This etched painfully upon my memory, then slowly faded.
I'm sure what ever degree of undress Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young acheive, it will manage to be photo-documented by people violating the no cameras rule, such as was done with that Harry Potter kid when he played the demented guy in Equus. No one needed to see Harry Potter with his clothes off. That's just disturbing.
UPDATE: Anonymous has corrected some of my erroneous information and added additional information. The correction? Ace Young is playing Berger, not Claude. Which means Ace is one of the tribe members who loses his clothes.
And, Diana DeGarmo has also been on Broadway, in addition to Off-Broadway, in Hairspray.
