New Jack Ryan Movie Moscow on Schedule

A new film featuring Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan character is on track to shoot soon, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura tells Collider.

The film will be called Moscow, and has been penned by Hossein Amini and Adam Cozad. It was announced last year that Star Trek star Chris Pine would play Ryan this time around, in a tale of Ryan's time fresh out of the Marines, working for a Russian billionaire as a financial consultant. He's framed in a terrorist plot and has to go on the run to clear his name.

It's not based directly on one of Clancy's Jack Ryan books, and it's believed to be a retooling of an earlier, unproduced script by Amini called Dubai. "We have a very good script," di Bonaventura tells the site. "I'm very happy with where we are today and we're looking forward, maybe with a little luck, to starting next late winter, early spring."

Of course Ryan has appeared on screen in the past. He was played by Alec Baldwin in The Hunt for Red October, Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger and Ben Affleck in The Sum of All Fears. Paramount president Adam Goodman thinks Pine is perfectly placed to step into the role. "Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan," he said when Pine was cast. "With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise."
