Natalie Portman Offered Lead Role in 'Gravity'

With Angelina Jolie now definitely off the project, Alfonso Cuaron's 3D Cast Away-in-space movie Gravity has been looking for a new lead so that the whole thing doesn't fall apart. Last week there was rumor that Rachel Weisz  was being sought for the film's primary role of a woman alone and stranded in a remote space station. Other names apparently being talked about have included Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively. But Risky Business reports Warner Bros. and Cuaron have now officially offered the part to Natalie Portman.

Portman is very hot right now, garnering significant Oscar buzz for her performance in the current festival favorite Black Swan (Eric Snider calls it the best of her career). And next summer she'll show up in another big comic book movie, as the love interest of Thor.
