TV Fitness Guru Jack Lalanne Dies at 96

The healthiest man in America has died. Jack Lalanne, TV's original get-in-shape-guru, died at his home in Morro Bay, Calif., according to The New York Times. He was 96. Known to millions of viewers for his upbeat demeanor, incredible physique and jumpsuit-heavy wardrobe, the longtime television fixture hosted a fitness program that ran from 1951 through 1985. As well as opening one of the first health spas in 1936 and promoting diet and exercise long before Richard Simmons, Jane Fonda or just about anyone else ever thought to, Lalanne was famous for attention-getting feats of strength such as swimming the length of the Golden Gate Bridge in handcuffs while towing a boat behind him.
