Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote Leads the most watch Movie at MMFF

There has been some buzz a week before the opening of the MMFF that the entry “Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote” could top the MMFF box-office this year because of the collaboration of two MMFF box-office kings Vic Sotto and Bong Revilla. And with an estimate of its P31 million gross on Christmas Day, the expectations are slowly becoming a reality.
“Ang Tanging Ina, Last Na ‘To” came in second with P20 million. It will be recalled that the last Tanging Ina movie “Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat”, which is Star Cinema’s MMFF entry in 2008, became the top-grosser that year with a total gross of a whopping P197 million in its entire run.
Also as expected, Father Jejemon is at the bottom of the box-office race.
My take: The race is just beginning as Star Cinema movies tend to gain steam on the second week because of “word of mouth” reviews from the first people who were able to catch the film. However, the latest “Tanging Ina” installment did not receive a CEB rating that is somehow crucial to the film’s success to duplicate its previous feat.
Graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board are the entries “Rosario” and “RPG Metanoia.” “Dalaw” and “Super Inday and the Golden Bibe” received a grade of B.
Because of the CEB rating and the awards that it will surely get tonight, I’m predicting that Rosario might improve its 7th placement by year-end. And I also have a gut-feel that “Dalaw” will gain steam next week. We will see.
Here is the unofficial first day gross of MMFF entries according to PEP Scoopbox:
1. Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote – P31 million
2. Ang Tanging Ina, Last Na ‘To – P20 million
3. Dalaw – P12.5 million
4. Shake Rattle & Roll XII – P11.8 million
5. RPG: Metanoia – P5.1 million
6. Super Inday and the Golden Bibe – P4.7 million
7. Rosario – P3.2 million
8. Father Jejemon – P1.4 million
