Lady Gaga Advises Scotty McCreery To Treat His Microphone Like His Girl Friend While James Durbin Leaves American Idol

Google's Blogger has been in major malfunction mode, which prevented me from blogging.

So, I am 2 days past Lady Gaga's interesting appearance on this week's American Idol.

I found all Lady Gaga's mentoring to be amusing, with the most amusing being the mentoring done to 17 year old Scotty McCreery.

Telling the kid to treat his microphone like his girl friend, to make sweet love to it. I forget what else.

And then Lady Gaga stood up and walked over to Scotty. The shorts Lady Gaga was wearing were very interesting. Actually, I could not tell for sure if she was wearing any shorts.

Scotty's reactions were funny, as were his comments, post-Gaga.

Lady Gaga seemed to be giving good advice. I thought all did well. I was surprised that it was James Durbin who got the tearful boot on Thursday and not Haley Reinhart or Lauren Alaina.

I am sort of disappointed we won't be seeing a James Durbin hometown visit. It likely would have been very interesting. With a lot of tears jerked.

I've read in the past couple days that Lady Gaga wants to be on Glee. A Lady Gaga appearance on Glee would likely be highly amusing.

In North Texas Weather Interrupted the Glee Lady Gaga Born This Way 90 Minute Special

Pet Peeve.

Idiotic interruptions of scheduled network TV shows to tell viewers bad weather is happening somewhere in the area a particular station covers.

Interrupting when something serious happens, that I'm okay with.

Terrorists attack America, break in with live coverage. Slovenia launches a nuclear attack on Non-Slovenia, break in with live coverage. Lee Harvey Oswald shoots JFK, break in with live coverage. Osama bin Laden captured, break in with live coverage. Hitler found alive in Argentina, break in with live coverage.

But what happened Tuesday night on KDFW FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth was brain dead moronic.

GLEE is one of my few guilty pleasures. Tuesday was a highly touted 90 minute Lady Gaga "Born This Way" special.

My DVR was set to record GLEE. I did not try to watch it til at least an hour had been recorded.

When I went to watch I was appalled to find that the first half hour.

Or more.

Was devoted to breathless, non-stop, weather information. Including live images of pea-sized hail falling.

Yes, we had a bad storm roll through North and East Texas on Tuesday night.

Power was knocked out for thousands of people. A tornado damaged a lot of homes. The very people who might have found weather info useful, no longer had TV access.

If one knows the weather is turning inclement one has many info options. If one chooses to turn on ones TV to watch a scheduled program one should not have that choice interrupted by useless weather information that is totally pointless and about which one can do nothing.

It works perfectly well to put weather info in a crawl across the bottom of the screen, or in the lower right or left. There is no need to break in to regular programming so a TV Weatherman can have fun being all dramatic about the weather.

What I did get to see of GLEE was very amusing. But my recording ran out before I learned if Rachel went ahead with her nose job. And I did not get to see the "Born This Way" production.

Sunday night we also had some storm action in North Texas. The local CBS affiliate did not mess with The Amazing Race. CBS kept viewers informed about possible tornado and hail and lightning action via the non-obtrusive means I've already mentioned. I have no idea how CBS handled last night's storm. I suspect way smarter than FOX did. Or the local ABC affiliate did with its embarrassing Pete Delkus Weather Drama Queen.

No weather drama is on the schedule for tonight for North Texas. So, I suspect the local FOX affiliate will let American Idol run uninterrupted.

U.S. Chart Roundup: Lady Gaga #1 For A Sixth Week, Britney Spears Plummets

While Lady Gaga notches a sixth week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with "Born This Way," poor Weaveney Spears sees her single "Till The World Ends" drop from #9 to #23 in only its third week on the chart, following the leak of her album Femme Fatale.

Said album will finally have its official release this coming Tuesday, and it will be interesting to see how many Britney stans actually cough up the cash to buy (remember that word, chyldren?) the record, rather than just settle for their illegally-downloaded version.

"Loser Like Me," a Max Martin-co-written original song from Glee, enters the Hot 100 at #6. Pretty impressive this week, but like The Wig's jam, it'll drop faster than a three-dollar hooker in the presence of an oil tycoon with a bulging wallet and a loose zipper at a bachelor party in Vegas.

Elsewhere, Chris Brown weasels his way into the Top 10 for the first time in three years with "Look At Me Now" (#8). And speaking of stans, I remember stanning hard for "Forever," Breezy's last big hit. Too bad his latest antics (a violent offstage freak-out Tuesday at Good Morning America) further cement his douchebag status. And is anyone else irked to no end that his just-released album F.A.M.E. is going to be #1 next week (with possibly over 250,000 copies sold), according to Billboard?

Selene Gomez debuts down at #24 on the Hot 100 with new single "Who Says," which ties with "Round & Round" for her peak chart position. Still, neither of those so-so offerings stack up to her ultimate jam, "Naturally," in my book.



On a final note, soul goddess Rebecca Black (who Lady Gaga calls a "genius") debuts at #72 with her touching ode to the best day of the week, "Friday." Although, that's not true—Saturday's pretty good, too. Rebecca Black...YOU WHORE!!!!

Glee's Alcohol Awareness Week Episode Where Everyone Gets Drunk

I find Glee to be amusing. And on way too early, as in 8/7c time. Glee has way too much adult material to be on so early.

And the fact that Glee is real popular with sub-teens is troubling.

I may be turning in to a prude in my old age.

In this week's episode of Glee Rachel's 2 gay dads were off on a Rosie O'Donnell cruise. So, Puck convinced Rachel to have a party. A drinking party.

Earlier we'd seen the Principal of William McKinley High School ask the Glee Club teacher, Will Schuester, to have the Glee Club sing an anti-alcohol song to an assembly dedicated to Alcohol Awareness Week.

The Glee kids all show up for Rachel's party. But start to leave because her 2 drink minimum was not enough to give them a good buzz. So, Puckerman convinces Rachel to break into her dad's liquor supply.

And so they do. And then proceed to get quite drunk. Except for Finn who was the designated driver and who suddenly knows words like "archetype."

Spinning the bottle,Rachel kissed Blaine, who had been gay, but when kissed by Rachel suddenly, became not gay. The upset Kurt alot, because Kurt is thoroughly convinced that both he and Blaine are gay.

Which makes sense, with the pair ending up, with Blaine drunk, in Kurt's bed, discovered there the next day by Kurt's dad. Kurt got quite upset with Blaine's orientation change. Eventually it was decided to test if kissing Rachel sober was still a turn on. It wasn't. So Blaine was back to being gay.

And on another gay note. Sue Sylvester, she being the obviously mentally ill criminally violent person who no one seems to be appalled by, gleefully told other teachers how she'd knocked another school Glee Club director down 2 flights of stairs so she could take over his job. And that he should be all right and get out of the hospital once the swelling in his brain goes down.

The day after Rachel's party everyone has a hangover. Artie in the wheelchair brought Bloody Mary's to school in a thermos to cure everyone of their hangovers.

Coach Beiste convinces Will to go to a honky tonk with her. Where they proceed to get drunk and sing. When he gets home Will drunkenly corrects papers, giving everyone an A+ with a smiley face. Then makes a call to Emma, but instead dialing Sue Sylvester.

Sue Sylvester then plays that call over the school intercom. A call in which Will suggests that Emma come over for a roll in the hay. And to bring a couple wine coolers.

If I remember right the phone call was played after New Directions sang their song, Tik Tok, for the Alcohol Awareness Assembly. To fortify them for singing Rachel brought the Glee kids a concoction of booze she made from leftovers from her party. Including crumbled Oreos and cough syrup.

Tik Tok had dim bulb, but lovably promiscuous Cheerio, Brittany, auto-tuning the lead. And then finishing her number by projectile vomiting a huge amount of greenish-gray vomit on Rachel.

After Sue played Will's phone call, the Glee Club and Will were called to the Principal's office. They figured they were in trouble. Instead the Principal praised them for their brilliant song, saying its profound effect had brought the school's drunk kid incidents to zero. And he told Will he'd like Will to talk to his minister about Will's drinking and sex addiction problems.

That does not cover all that seemed a bit on the adult side for the viewing pleasure of pre-teenagers. There have been some objections by some PTA type groups, to Glee. But, I am surprised there aren't more complaints. 7 seems way to early for this show to be on, especially where I am right now. In the Buckle of the Bible Belt.

Much has already been made of this week's milestone Billboard Hot 100 chart, so let's just recap:

* "Born This Way" is the 19th single to debut at #1

Billboard also points out another chart achievement this week: the cast of Glee has notched a grand total of 113 song entries on the Hot 100 to date, which now surpasses the record 108 by Elvis Presley.

That's great and all, but the publication clearly overlooked the MAIN triumph on the new chart: all three current hits with the word "fuck" in the title—Pink's "Fuckin' Perfect," Enrique Iglesias' "Tonight (I'm Fuckin' You)" and Cee Lo Green's "Fuck You"—are finally in the Top 10 together (now that Cee Lo's had a Grammys-fueled rebound).

And, even better, all three songs are stacked on top of each other at #5 through #7. So it's like they're—well, you know...

Darren Criss Covers 'Out', Uncovers Inside

Not only is Glee actor/crooner/hot piece of tail Darren Criss adept at covering songs by other artists, he's also quite skilled at covering magazines these days, too.

Following his Entertainment Weekly spread (ahem!) with Golden Globe-winning co-star Chris Colfer last month, Glee newie Darren is splashed front and center on the new issue of Out magazine. Yes, Out—which is published by those fuckers Regent/Here, who still owe me a hundred bucks from two years ago. That Out. But I'm not holding a grudge.

Glee Cast Apologizes to Lindsay Lohan

Various websites are reporting that the cast of Golden Globe winner Glee apparently apologized to a singer that the TV show gave mean jokes to.

Lindsay Lohan was out for dinner at the Chateau Marmot when she run to the cast of the show (with the exception of Lea Michele and Jane Lynch). The cast went there after the Screen Actors Guild Awards (where they lost to Modern Family).

The cast approached Lohan and apologized to her for making fun of her and her repeated trips to rehab.

Lohan has been previously reported to have been hurt and upset about the episode, which aired last November 16. In that episode, guest Gwyneth Paltrow, whose role is that of a substitute teacher in a Spanish class, asked the students to translate the sentences “Lindsay Lohan is totally crazy, right?” and “How many times has Lindsay Lohan been to rehab?”

Darren Criss, Chris Colfer And The 'Entertainment Weekly' Gay Issues: 1995, 2011

Here are the pics of Glee's cute as all hell "Teenage Dream" crooner Darren Criss and Golden Globe-winner Chris Colfer from inside their Entertainment Weekly cover story. I just got the issue in the mail yesterday—with the 'Gay Teens On TV' special report—and it got me thinking about EW's 'The Gay '90s' feature, which was the cover story in the September 8, 1995 issue.

I had a subscription to the mag the whole time I was in college back then, and for whatever reason, I grabbed that issue and a couple others when I was back in Pennsylvania in February last year.

Here's an interesting bit—if only for the quaintness of it all—from the "What's Out Now" music section in the 1995 article:

"Just three years ago, even a self-proclaimed drag queen like Boy George felt it threatening to identify himself as anything more than 'bisexual.' Yet in the mid-'90s, Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys—both featuring gay vocalists—have won over as many fans for their dance beats as for their gay-themed lyrics, and despite Michael Stipe's ambiguous sexual stance, R.E.M. has seen no drop-off in its arena drawing power. Kurt Cobain moved rock a step forward by proclaiming in the liner notes to Nirvana's Incesticide that he didn't want homophobes buying the group's albums, and country golden boy Garth Brooks' album The Chase included 'We Shall Be Free' in support of gay rights. Small wonder that it's hip to have a band member announce an alternative lifestyle (including players in the Breeders, Sugar, Luscious Jackson, Kitchens Of Distinction and Faith No More)."

The moral of the story? The Breeders = good, good times.

Darren Criss And Chris Colfer Cover This Week's 'Entertainment Weekly'

"Gay Teens On TV" ... played by 23-year-old Darren Criss and 20-year-old Chris Colfer. But anyway, let's not get technical. Very cute cover (and very timely, given Colfer's Golden Globe win for Glee on Sunday).

U.S. Chart Roundup: Rihanna Makes Hot 100 History With "Only Girl (In The World)"

This week Rihanna not only becomes the first female singer to nab four #1 singles within one year on the Billboard Hot 100, she's also the first artist ever to have the first single from an album top the chart after the second single did.

Yes, RiRi's "Only Girl (In The World)" has finally inched its way to the top spot, two weeks after her second Loud single "What's My Name" was #1. Earlier this year she ruled with both her hooker jam "Rude Boy" and Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie."

Meanwhile, over on the Top 200, Rihanna settles for a #3 debut with Loud, behind Susan Boyle's The Gift (#1 for a second week) and 10-year-old Pittsburgh native/America's Got Talent runner-up Jackie Evancho's O Holy Night (#2). That's right—bow to SuBo's powerful thong, you amateurs!

Back on the Hot 100, just behind Rihanna is Pink's "Raise Your Glass" at #2. Her only other single to chart higher (not counting collaborative cover "Lady Marmalade" or shit "We Are The World 25") is "So What", which reached #1 two years ago.

It's annoying to think of that time period in the early '00s where labels by and large weren't offering CD singles in the U.S., and the iTunes store wasn't around yet. Because surely "Get The Party Started" would have been a #1 hit, rather than peaking at #4 on airplay alone? At any rate, Pink's Greatest Hits...So Far!!! debuts at #14 this week over on the Top 200.

Cee Lo Green's "Fuck You" finally cracks the Top 10 (#9), likely thanks to last week's episode of Glee. Gwyneth Paltrow's own tame version of "Forget You" from the episode debuts at #11.



And, hey—maybe this will pave a highly fuckable path for Enrique Iglesias' new single, "Tonight (I'm Fuckin' You)"?

On a final single note, Michael Jackson and Akon's duet "Hold My Hand" debuts at #84. Currently it's up to #30 at the iTunes store. Will this will become MJ's first Top 40 hit in nearly 10 years, Jacko fans? Eeeeeeeeeeee-Heeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

And on a final album note, 2010 American Idol winner Lee DeWyze appears to be dead on arrival. His debut LP Live It Up pretty much kicked the bucket with its #19 debut.

U.S. Chart Roundup: Rihanna & Drake Fall, Pink Climbs And Glee's "Teenage Dream" Comes True

Some interesting trash going on in the Billboard Hot 100 this week, starting with the fact that Rihanna and Drake's "What's My Name" plummets from #1 to #7. And I know I said last week that it's one of her most forgettable singles, but—dammit!—that effing song is actually growing on me now. I think if it had Drake stripped out altogether, a la how she's been performing the tune during her TV appearances all week, it would take on a whole new dimension of pop radness. Alas—well, dropping to #7 says it all, really.

That brings us to Pink, whose "Raise Your Glass" hops up from #7 to #4. It's shocking to think that, if we don't count the collaborative 2001 cover of "Lady Marmalade," this is really only Pink's fourth Top 5 hit, following "Most Girls" (#4, 2000) "Get The Party Started" (#4, 2001) and "So What" (#1, 2008). I, for one, have been jamming all week to her Greatest Hits...So Far!!! Yeah—she got my cold hard  cash for that one. She's gonna need it to buy that kid she has on the way some leather or brass knuckles.

Debuting at #8 is Darren Criss' Glee cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," a week after the original version dropped out of the Top 10. So far it's become the best-selling single during a one-week period from the Fox series, even though it didn't quite land as high as "Don't Stop Believing" (#4, 2009) on the Hot 100.

On a final note, the Black Eyed Peas' absolutely wretched "The Time (The Dirty Bit)" debuts at #12. If ever there was an uninspired, rushed single that deserves to flop...

Darren Criss' "Teenage Dream" Cover On 'Glee' Turned Out To Be Pretty Major

That cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" that was performed by Darren Criss (aka "Blaine") on Glee last week didn't just have the gays fizzing with excitement. (Though, admittedly, I fizzed.) Billboard reports that the a cappella rendition had the best one-week sales ever for a single from the show after racking up 214,000 paid downloads. (That beats previous record holder "Don't Stop Believing" from the series pilot episode.)

With little to no radio play, I find it hard to believe this version of "Teenage Dream" will debut at #1 on the Hot 100 tomorrow. But at least Criss is now signed as a full-time regular Glee cast member.

Too bad last night's episode was snooze central.

Glee: Never Been Kissed Episode Has Will Kissing Beiste and a Bully Kissing Kurt

Tonight's episode of Glee, titled "Never Been Kissed" has generated publicity due to supposedly making the cast somehow sworn to secrecy over tonight's shocking plot twist.

Well, I have watched the episode. I'm not quite certain what the part was that needed to be kept secret.

We had two people who had never been kissed, getting kissed.

Kurt Hummel was the first to get his first kiss. Kurt was being bullied by a fat bully. Fat bullies are always the worst. Then Kurt met this other gay guy at an all guy school who convinced Kurt to fight back against the bully. When Kurt proceeded to do so, standing up to the bully, the bully kissed him.

Well, that was not too shocking. It isn't much of a newsflash that the more overt the homophobic behavior, the more likely the homophobe is actually a homo-boy wannabe.

This episode of Glee began with Sam and Finn in therapeutic tubs in the locker room. Finn's was hot, Sam's was ice water. When Finn asked how Sam could stand the cold water, Sam shared the information that he gets a lot of practice, due to taking cold showers due to his girl friend, Quinn, not wanting to become overly familiar, in the take your clothes off and do the business that married people do to make babies type of overly familiar.

Finn then shared with Sam his method of cooling himself down. Finn imagines something that is the opposite of HOT. I did not quite catch what this was. I think it had something to do with a mailman.

Sam then had the inspiration to use thinking of Coach Beiste to cool his ardor when it needed cooling.

We were then treated to a series of images of Coach Beiste in various provocative attires, like lingerie.

Soon this method of self control spread to other Glee members. Eventually remarks were made to Coach Beiste.

Beiste then asked the Glee coach, Will Schuester what was going on. Reluctantly he told her. She did not take it well. So, she resigned as coach.

Will and the Glee Cub felt terrible.

Will then had a talk with Coach Beiste where she explained how tough it had been for her lovelife-wise. 40 years old and never been kissed. Just like Susan Boyle. So, Will kissed her. And invited her to the Glee Club, at 4, so the kids could apologize to her.

The apologize was via song. The episode ended with Artie initiating a group hug with the now happy Coach Beiste.

So, was the kiss between Beiste and Will the big secret? Or was it Kurt getting the unwanted lip smacking from the repressed gay bully?

'Glee' Newbie Amps Up The Gayness (Like The Show Needed It) With "Teenage Dream"

If all goes according to the much-denied rumors out there, Kurt (Chris Colfer) will finally get some hot sausage this season on Glee, in the form of newcomer (ahem) Blaine (played by Darren Criss, above).

Tuesday's episode is called "Never Been Kissed," and in it Blaine fronts gay show choir Dalton Academy Warblers and dazzles Kurt with an a cappella rendition of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream."

Let's just say it's better than Jedward.

My Interview With Mark Salling Of 'Glee'

I interviewed Mark Salling, who plays full-lipped, mohawked jock Puck on Glee and has a new album called Pipe Dreams coming out on Monday. The one-on-one is up now over at Idolator.

Glee's Rachel, Quinn & Finn Shocking GQ Magazine Photo Spread

You are looking at one of the supposedly racy photos from GQ Magazine that has some Glee fans in supposed shock mode. There is a picture, or two, of maybe questionable taste, like one where Lea Michele (Rachel) is on a bench in a locker room with her legs up in the air.

The other two Glee people in the pictures are Dianna Agron (Quinn) and Cory Monteith (Finn).

Near as I could tell Cory Monteith does nothing distasteful in the pictures.

Dianna Agron has apologized for her part in this scalding controversy.

Apparently Glee is very popular with 8 and 9 year olds. It is the parents of those pre-teens who objected to the GQ layout. I guess. What 8 or 9 year old reads GQ?

And what parent in their right mind would let an 8 or 9 year old watch Glee?

The most recent new Glee episode, titled Duets, seemed to contain far more scandalous stuff than what I saw in GQ. You had an apparently quite slutty Cherio Cheerleader Glee Singer making whoopy on a bed with another cheerleader who was in dire need of body warmth, something to do with being like a reptile, due to her boyfriend being in the slammer and unable to provide warmth.

Then the slutty Cheerio Cheerleader Glee Singer needed a duet partner. So, she targeted the Glee Singer in the wheelchair. He was having trouble agreeing to the duet, so she picked him up out of the wheelchair and put him on her busy bed, where he asked if he was about to lose her virginity, to which she said, "We're gonna do it and duet."

Those are just two examples of stuff an 8 or 9 year should not be seeing on TV.

Now, the duet between Finn and Rachel and its tastelessness would sail right over an 8 or 9 year old. The other Glee Singers seemed more shocked by it than I was. I likely would not have thought anything of it, had not the fuss been made. Rachel and Finn were attired like a nun and priest, and sang a love song to each other.

In the next episode of Glee the Glee Singers put on a production of Rocky Horror Picture Show. That has all sorts of tastelessness potential. Glee should do HAIR.

U.S. Chart Roundup: Brace Yourselves—'Glee' Is A Hit Or Something

The main activity on the Billboard Hot 100 this week comes from the songs that appeared in the Season 2 premiere of Glee. The singing troupe of TV dorks see their following covers hit the chart: "Empire State Of Mind" (#21), "Telephone" (#23), "Billionaire" (#28) [Note: for the record, I fucking hate this song], "Listen" (#38) and "What I Did For Love" (#51).

Elsewhere, all does not seem lost just yet for Selena Gomez & The Scene's moody dance-pop jam "A Year Without Rain." After dropping from #35 to #65 last week, the single now jumps up to #53. Her same-named album debuts on the Top 200 album chart at #4. (Is it any good? I've only heard a few clips—seems decent enough?)

That brings us to Florence + The Machine, whose "Dog Days Are Over" sadly falls from #21—where it flew to after Flo's stellar MTV VMAs performance the other week—to #73. Over on the Top 200, FATM's Lungs has a less dramatic plunge from #14 to #28.

And we'll end with these two final notes—first up, Brandon Flowers' Flamingo, which debuted at #8 last week, drops to #30. I actually made it the whole way through this album twice. It's not bad. It's just...there.

And at least Christina Aguilera can be happy that she's finally #1 again somewhere. Her Bionic single "You Lost Me" has topped the Dance/Club Play Songs chart. Triumph!
